Reading for Writing workshop – (possibly) coming soon!

'The Waif of the Cynthia' by George Roux 24I was going to put something about teasing you with the possibility in the header, but then I remembered the sorts of spam messages that seem to follow those types of post headings.

Anyhow, this is a heads-up for those of you who are interested in attending a (legendary, heading swiftly towards near-mythical) Reading for Writing class. I’ve applied for funding to try and keep the costs manageable, and will know by the end of September if I’ve got it or not. So, the details (hoping this doesn’t jinx anything …)

In the event the funding doesn’t come through, I’ll have to decide whether I can afford to run it or not. So here’s the ugly question for those interested in attending (and an excuse to create a poll …) (I like polls). If funding doesn’t come through, how much would you be willing to pay to attend? (Incidentally, because financial questions are so awkward, I’ve set the poll to not display collected answers. I’ll be able to see them, and you’ll see your own, but that should be it. So please do answer honestly.)

I’m also hoping to be able to put some sort of Summer Intensive workshop together. It’ll probably be more of a classic group workshop style thing – exercises, in-class writing time, and then a chunk of each session put aside for workshopping each other’s poems. Again, I’ll try to get some funding to help defray costs, but I would be helpful to have some sort of indication as to how interested people are in such things. And, again, how much you’d pay if I can’t get funding. (Commerce may be vulgar, but it’s got nothing on the sheer rudeness of my mortgage.)

Ah, the joys of being a freelance tutor …

  1. Hi Jo,

Of course there is the unavoidable, inevitable chasm between what is willing to pay and … what one can afford to pay. All money is a curse, especially that money that you do not possess.

    Ian.

    • Ian, I know exactly what you mean. It’s a question I hate asking, but one I need the answers from.
Now, if I could magically extract the numbers (for ‘able’ rather than ‘willing to’, although really I’m after whichever is lower) from people’s brains without ever having to ask …
