The Summer King turns One!

Hard to believe it, but The Summer King was officially launched one year ago today. I still can’t quite get my head around it. It feels much longer. And much shorter. And all good!  I’ve done a number of readings; oodles of interviews; won a second award (thank you Australia!); missed out on a third (nooooooo!); been booked for my first Overseas Literary Festival (the WA Spring Poetry Festival in Perth – more on that soon); been passed over for my Local Literary Festival (who do I have to sleep with to get that gig‽); and been reviewed four times, all very positive.

All in all, it’s been one hell of a year. Thank you to everyone who’s offered encouragement along the way.

  1. Dear Jo,
I agree that you being passed over for our local literary festival is not an intelligent move! Is it who you know?
    Kind regards,
    Elizabeth.

    • Hi Elizabeth,
no idea! I’m glad you think I’d be a good/sensible choice for inclusion, but as for why not … I thought I did know the right people. Maybe I need to know the hairdressers of the right people? Or bartenders to the right people? Or maybe it’s that I also know too many of the wrong people? Or maybe I’m one of the wrong people? Or maybe they’ve filled up on people, and I’m not slow moving enough to be furniture? Or I’m not the right shape to be furniture, and not decorative enough to be a lamp or a microphone stand? Or they’re worried I’ll stage an inky coup and take over the whole festival …
(Can you tell I’m having fun with this?)
      (Maybe too much fun.)
(Note to self: in future, do not go anywhere near the internet until a good twenty minutes after drinking coffee …)
