Planning The Summer King launch!

circus-tent-top-by-john-nybergTo add to the chaos the NaPoWriMo has already brought to my life, I’m putting the finishing touches on the plans for my book launch. Many thanks to those of you who offered suggestions.

I’ve just sent off the registration papers to have it all listed as an Official Montana Poetry Day Event. Assuming NZ Post don’t let me down, the plan is as follows.

It’ll be a two-part night:

  • First up will be the official launch of The Summer King. James Norcliffe will be the official launcher, so I suspect I’m in for some roasting – when I asked him if he’d do the deed, his response brought the phrase “unholy glee” to mind.
  • Second will be a poetry reading with a difference. Five Christchurch poets will talk about a ‘touchstone’ poem (by someone else) that has had an impact on their own writing, and conclude by reading a couple of their own poems. I’m planning to include two emerging poets in the list – it’ll be great to hear from new voices, as well as the established poets.

We’re holding it in the upstairs function room at a local BrewPub, The Twisted Hop. There is no official disabled access, unfortunately. But I’ve been assured that a couple of burly young men will be available to assist anyone who needs help up the stairs if we let them know in advance.

There will be nibbles, and complimentary drinks for those who buy a copy of the book (normal bar service for everyone else). And admission will be absolutely FREE!

It should be a good night.

And yes, I’m going to be going on and on and on about it!
